“Was a long and dark December, from the rooftops I remember there was snow…white snow,” reminisces a soldier of love as he marches back home; hoping that the love that he left on “Violet Hill” is still waiting for him. During the march, the members of Coldplay are met with 40 seconds worth of ambience, distorted guitars, and a Gunsmoke drum beat; in other words this isn’t your grandma’s Coldplay.
With their new album, Viva la Vido, Chris Martin and Co. set out to make a different sounding album from their previous ‘trilogy’ of Radiohead-lite inspired songs. To steer their ship in a new direction, they enlisted U2’s heavy-weight co-producer Brian Eno.. Under Eno’s command, they have put a haltto Chris Martin’s ever-present falsetto and at points not use the entire group when formulating a song.
Thus far, there are only 2 tracks that have been released from Viva la Vida or Death and All of His Friends. “Violet Hill”, the first single, was released as a free week download on Coldplay’s website and was estimated to have summoned 2 million downloads. The second song “Viva la Vida”, was released as a gift to those who preordered the album through iTunes.
The songs are good and the lyrics are catchy, but as someone who definitely enjoyed the ‘trilogy’ I’m a bit scared of the change.
They also have an upcoming tour. You can see the dates after the jump...

No team has overcome a 3-1 deficit in the finals to win a title. The first 28 failed, and now the Lakers, who blew a 24-point lead and lost Game 4 and nearly squandered a 19-point lead in Game 5, have a chance to do something extraordinary.
